John Buonauro entered the world of fine art
rather late in life. Born in Chicago, where he was raised, attended
Morton College, and worked. His true happiness was found when he was
surrounded by nature. Most of his free time as an adult has found him
hiking mountain trails, deep canyons, beautiful deserts and the
shorelines of both coasts. He has spent much of the past ten years in
Arizona. His deep reverence for nature has given him intimate
knowledge of his subject matter.
Perhaps this is what was needed to bring out the awe-inspiring beauty
of his unique 3-dimensional work. No…2-dimensional flat painting was
inadequate for John to show us the things that he has experienced.
With his unique style of carving in wood and then painting in oils,
each piece of work comes alive. John has recently started using some
wire in a few of his pieces for the most delicate items that couldn’t
be carved from wood.

John starts each new piece with the spark of an idea. He requires a
subject; usually a form of wild life or a landform that he has seen.
This is when his creative mind takes over and he draws these things
along with purely artistic inspiration on several sheets of tracing
paper. He then positions them until he achieves the scene that he
wants. These drawings are then transferred onto wood and the real work
progresses from there using an assortment of tools including micro
tools and burning equipment.
John received a first place award and Honorable
Mention for his work in juried art shows. John is represented by
Boardwalk Galleria in Lake Havasu
City, Arizona, The
Havasu Art Guild in the Lake Havasu
Community Center, BlueWater Gallery
in Lake Havasu, and The Rocking Bear
in Douglas/Saugatuck, Michigan, currently represent his work. John's
work was most recently accepted at the exquisite
Studio Manzanita in beautiful Sedona,
Arizona. He is
also in some private collections. He is also presented on various
websites. John was featured in the Mar/Apr 2006 issue of the
Dazzling Desert Magazine.
You have the opportunity to
own something truly unique and surely the value can only increase in
the coming years.
